Sometimes, things happen in life that kind of make you lose faith in humanity. Today was one of those days. Working in customer support involves a lot of great interactions with customers and a lot of inane interactions with customers, but there’s always that bad egg every once in a while. (Looking back on this sentence, I am not entirely sure that “bad egg” is a legitimate description of what I’m trying to explain – don’t care; I’m running with it.)However, those crappy situations can also give way to some pretty wonderful experiences and realizations. Happily for me, this was the case today. I have the most awesome co-workers ever. Ever. My twenty-minute-apology followed by a twenty-minute-sobfest was met with far more than twenty minutes of (cough) support from everyone around me, including but not limited to hugs, a cuddly sock monkey and ice cream bars. It was almost worth it to hear some random lady’s scathing opinion of how I do my job. Almost.
Regardless, my feelings at the end of the day are: sad, happy, and grateful. It’s a bummer to interact with people who are determined to get you down, but I am so lucky to be where I am, surrounded by amazing people.
Oh, lady, I’m so sorry you had such a crap day, but it sounds like your amazing coworkers came to the rescue. Thinking of you and sending you a HUGE hug (and an e-copy of Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!). I hope tomorrow’s a better one for you!
