Squam-tastic

[I could look at this view for a long, loooooooong time.]

I’m not big on taking time off from work, although as far as I’m concerned, every day could totally be Saturday when my alarm goes off each morning (how much do alarm clocks suck?  Discuss amongst yourselves).  However, given that I’ve made it up to Squam Lake pretty much every summer of my life so far, it didn’t seem quite right not to spend at least a few days there this year. I need a vacation, gimme more

Vacation

Sydney, Bloody Sydney

[delicious drinks and beautiful views at the Bondi Icebergs Surf Club]

Happy new year 8 days late!   (This is actually in advance for next year, so, you’re welcome. I’m very prompt.)

I’ve been back in beautiful Boulder for a week now, and boy has it been a whirlwind.  Big changes at work, friends moving, snowstorms…but really, who cares about that stuff?  I went to Australia!

The rest of my trip went swimmingly (sorry) in Sydney, where I was careful to spend a lot of time sunning myself on the beach, drinking beer, and eating delicious Aussie desserts.  It was very hard.

Anyway, here are pictures.  I’m going to cook something this week.  And that’s a promise!  Disclaimer: if you don’t like beaches, leave now.

Summer Solstice 2010, Take 2: Melbourne

[The view from our lunch today at Bondi Icebergs Surf Club.  It’s fine looking.]

Hello from rainy Sydney!  Okay, it’s not raining yet.  But it looks like it’s about to.  Now, don’t you wish I’d just left it at “from rainy Sydney?”

To say that our trip has been eventful so far would be a bit of an understatement.  Although we’re now comfortably settled into our house in Cremorne (in the Northern Suburbs of SYD), getting here was a bit more trying than any of us really would have liked.  For starters, we almost missed 2 out of 2 flights to get to Australia, for various irritating reasons that I won’t get into for the sake of your enjoyment and my blood pressure.  Suffice it to say that not being through the security line with 30 minutes to takeoff for an international flight was a little bit stressful.  Multiplied by THIRTY MILLION.

Holidays, Vacation

Christmas in Oz

…and I’m off!

I’m setting out this evening for a two and a half week long trip to Melbourne and Sydney, Australia – I can’t wait!

Since it’s Christmas (soon), please accept my sincerest apologies for the dearth of recipes and posts in general recently – life has been crazy.  I hope that everyone has such a wonderful holiday season, and I’ll be back with pictures galore (and hopefully NOT a sunburn) in 2011!  New Years’ resolution: pay more attention to my blog.  Also, vegetables.

Merry Christmas/Kwanzaa/Diwali, Happy New Year, and lots of love to you all! 🙂

Back to Squam, Again and Again

It’s probably pretty clear from my last few posts that I spent the last long weekend in a whirlwind of travel.  Well, more like a bell curve of travel.  If it were turned upside-down.  Or something.  Yeah.

Anyway, here are some snapshots of the weekend.  I wish I were swimming right now…
