Eternal Wisdom of a Spotless, 8-year-old Mind

This unthinkably adorable human being is my ever-charming, always-hilarious and consistently wise 8-year-old cousin, Lila.

She’s like, kind of my hero.  Also, she’s pretty dang cute.  (Sorry.  I guess I say “dang” now.)

Why am I speaking of my 8-year-old cousin on my blog?  Well, it’s interesting that I should use the word “blog” – because she has one now.  Cue the link:

Think you don’t care what an 8-year-old is doing?  You thought wrong.  If you’re feeling stressed, or you need some inspiration for dinner, Lila may have the answer.  Even if she doesn’t, you may find yourself swept up in her world.

Also, she’s pretty dang cute.

Food

Why Am I Suddenly Hungry?

[Rainbow rolls, salmon-avocado rolls, veggie rolls and spicy salmon maki with unfiltered sake and tamari]

Sometimes, I like to remind myself how delicious homemade versions of “going-out” food can be.  This option is especially enticing when I am feeling very poor, but I still want ultimate deliciousness.  This weekend, My Man got mega-motivated to make incredibly involved homemade sushi, and OHBOY was it awesome.  I am so impressed.  He can definitely stay. Life

New Year, Young Blog

WARNING: I have been writing this post for like a week and it is a horrible mish-mosh.  But I had to just publish it and be done with, so that it doesn’t give me blogger’s block and prevent me from ever writing a funny or interesting post again.  What kind of world would that be?!

The new year always brings on kind of a conundrum for me.  For a start, I don’t believe in New Years resolutions – I think that you can make changes to your life at any time you want, and since I am definitely a perpetrator of that well-practiced “I’ll start doing that in January” attitude, I’ve abandoned it favor of what I like to call the Nike method.  (Don’t make me say it.  But, you know??) Vacation

Sydney, Bloody Sydney

[delicious drinks and beautiful views at the Bondi Icebergs Surf Club]

Happy new year 8 days late!   (This is actually in advance for next year, so, you’re welcome. I’m very prompt.)

I’ve been back in beautiful Boulder for a week now, and boy has it been a whirlwind.  Big changes at work, friends moving, snowstorms…but really, who cares about that stuff?  I went to Australia!

The rest of my trip went swimmingly (sorry) in Sydney, where I was careful to spend a lot of time sunning myself on the beach, drinking beer, and eating delicious Aussie desserts.  It was very hard.

Anyway, here are pictures.  I’m going to cook something this week.  And that’s a promise!  Disclaimer: if you don’t like beaches, leave now.

Holidays

Merry Christmas!

[an Aussie posting Santa-style this morning at the beach]

It feels less awkward to have a Merry Christmas post up now that it will be Christmas in the States in a mere 45 minutes.

Merry, merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours – I hope it’s the best one yet!  And try not to overdo it on the eggnog this year.  I’m talking to you.
