Design Bind

(For reference, I’m aware that the title of this post is not especially witty.  So if you’re thinking that too, then we’re on the same page.)

Guys, my internal sense of design zen is really not in a good place at the moment.  For one thing, My Man and I are absolutely BURSTING at the seams of our 530 square foot apartment, which we adore but have simply outgrown.

For another, no matter where we go, it will still be small.  And I will still probably not be able to re-wire the lighting and hang expensive pendant lamps designed by George Nelson for Eames.  Or afford expensive pendant lamps designed by George Nelson for Eames.

It’s the big small things in life. You’re so right. More designz, please!

Where Is My Mind?

[Happy place.  Happy place.]

Guys.  Work has been crazy.  I’ve barely had a chance to breathe these past few weeks, and I have a sneaking suspicion that my brain looks something like this:

[You guys know exactly what I’m talking about.]

Sometimes, when I was little (read: like a month ago), I would picture myself as a high-powered businesswoman, who had someone else to schedule her pedicures and…I don’t know, blow off her kids.  (All of this really clearly shows the grasp I had of important tasks that require attending to when you’re a businesswoman.)

I would never have to get my own coffee, because there would be someone else to get my coffee.  Except almost nobody else knows how I like my coffee.  Except My Man.  And that…that just wouldn’t work.  Okay, this plan is sounding less appealing. You appeal to me, gimme more

Colorado, Life, Weekend

Spring, But Slowly

Aaaah, spring.

The promise of buds on trees and bushes, the smell of pollen in the air (unfortunately, for most of us), and approximately 100 million cyclists that make every spin around Boulder in my minivan a truly terrifying experience.

I can already tell that this spring will be different from others that I’ve experienced so far – much like the fall, Colorado puts its best foot forward in terms of natural beauty (business as usual, with its gorgeous white mountain peaks and clear blue skies), but falls a little flat in terms of my New England-bred expectations. But wait: there’s more!

New Year, Young Blog

WARNING: I have been writing this post for like a week and it is a horrible mish-mosh.  But I had to just publish it and be done with, so that it doesn’t give me blogger’s block and prevent me from ever writing a funny or interesting post again.  What kind of world would that be?!

The new year always brings on kind of a conundrum for me.  For a start, I don’t believe in New Years resolutions – I think that you can make changes to your life at any time you want, and since I am definitely a perpetrator of that well-practiced “I’ll start doing that in January” attitude, I’ve abandoned it favor of what I like to call the Nike method.  (Don’t make me say it.  But, you know??)
